Chicago never sleeps: Listen to IKON’s “Private Stock” tonight [Artists to keep an eye on]

NxTmp6vT

IKON picked a bad time to drop off this tape. With Kendrick, Action Bronson and Earl all dropping albums in the last month a lot of music fell through the cracks or got looked over. Luckily, I took the time to listen to this from start to finish, twice. Thanks in part to the fact that Spazz and Reelo of ASA spammed my Twitter timeline with it when it released. So when I saw it on Soundcloud earlier today I decided to give it a listen. I’m very glad I did. After two complete run throughs I would recommend this tape to anyone who’s into music. IKON has an incredibly mature, confident flow. The tape is of the highest quality. From the album artwork, features, production and lyrics there’s no aspect of the project that makes me think something could have been done differently. Give this a listen tonight while you’re getting ready for your week of school or work, you won’t be disappointed.  Also, keep an eye out for more from IKON in the future.

Get up and dance, or something. If you can sit still listening to this then I don’t know what’s wrong with you. I woke up in a terrible mood this morning and I remembered that ASA dropped this the other night so I decided to give it a listen. “Bon Voyage” immediately turned my mood around, a nice mixture of pop, rap and beautiful production make this a must listen. Check it out below and look out for more like this from ASA.

Our favorite duo is back. Spazz and Reelo just dropped off a new single titled “Over Here.” With smooth production from CMPLX and some quality bars from Spazz and Reelo this is another song the duo will add to their already impressive resumé. The song can be streamed below. Be sure to like it on Soundcloud and repost it.

This past weekend part of the Smooth Waves team was in Chicago to attend the first ever Aahh Music Fest and to chop it up with some of our favorite Chicago area rappers, Spazz, Reelo and Hyype. Saturday we had the chance to meet up with ASA and Hyype. We went down to the lake and shot a few pictures and chopped it up, talking about everything from shoes, jewelry and the Chicago music scene. Aahh Fest was a great success, Jay Electronica, Lil Herb, MC Lyte, Lil Mama, Lupe Fiasco, Jennifer Hudson, Common, Twista, DJ Wayne Williams and many others made appearances. The biggest act of the night though, was the surprise performer. Many people felt that it would be Kanye or Chance The Rapper. In the end, it turned out to be Kanye. He absolutely shut the place down. Check out some of the shots from the photo shoot and pictures and video of Aahh Fest below.

Easily the biggest part of the night. The crowd rapped along word for word with Kanye on every single song.
