Wake up: It’s 2017 and rap is still homophobic, the Migos aren’t too exited about Makonnen coming out

EDIT: The Migos just issued this statement:unspecified-2

Atlanta rapper/singer Makonnen, previously known as iLoveMakonnen recently took to Twitter coming out as gay. A lot of Twitter users reacted to the news positively, sending their best wishes to the rapper who had the club going up in 2014 and was once signed to Drake’s label OVO. However, on the flip side of things, the Migos aren’t yet ready to give their best wishes to Makonnen. In an interview with Rolling Stone, writer Jonah Weiner commented on Atlanta’s diversity and asked the trio how they felt about it, here’s the full excerpt:

“And so I’m surprised by Migos’ reaction when I mention iLoveMakonnen, the local MC who just came out as gay on Twitter. “Damn, Makonnen!” Quavo bellows after an awkward interlude. I mention support I saw online for Makonnen’s decision. “They supported him?” Quavo asks, raising an eyebrow. “That’s because the world is fucked up,” says Offset. “This world is not right,” Takeoff says. “We ain’t saying it’s nothing wrong with the gays,” says Quavo. But he suggests that Makonnen’s sexuality undermines his credibility, given the fact that “he first came out talking about trapping and selling Molly, doing all that. He frowns. “That’s wack, bro.””

It’s also important to note that the Migos used a racial slur against Chinese people on a song off of Culture titled “Get Right Witcha.” It is also easy to forget the homophobic nature of rap because homophobic slurs don’t find their way into the music as much as they have in the past and rappers PR teams help to make sure that nothing is said to cause a stir. But just because you’re not hearing it doesn’t mean it’s not there. Hopefully others in the rap game come to Makonnen’s defense and chastise the Migos for their headass comments, until then I’ll sit back and listen to “Trust Me Danny” on repeat.

Marzs- “Do It All”

blogger-image-1392203494We recently got hit up on twitter about a week ago by a Philly based artist named Marzs. His song “Do It All” made me actually stop and listen to a brand new song by a brand new artist and I was blown away. I even went back and went through the whole dude’s soundcloud and he has some fire not only on solo tracks but with his group 90s Era. Formal, do not sleep on Marzs and go follow him on twitter and soundcloud. Check out one of our favorites “Do It All” below. All Love.

Ab-Soul- “47 Bars” (Produced by The Alchemist)

dsc_0429It looks as if Ab-Soul leaked this Alchemist produced song himself through a mysterious soundcloud user name. He had a tweet saying:

It is funny because the song itself is actually incredibly good, and could have been saved for some sort of project. Maybe it is a leak off of the upcoming Long Term 3? Only time will tell. In the meantime, stream “47 Bars” below.
