Sunday night tunes: Joey Green’s “The Outside”

Joey Green hit us up a few days ago with a new song. “The Outside” was produced by Contour and RenzyBeats and showcases another semi gloomy, laid back track from the DC native. Joey’s been growing steadily in the past few months and it’s exciting to see. You can stick with us for more from him in the future. For now, enjoy “The Outside.”

Other blogs seem to have just noticed that Joey Green is one of the doper artists on the rise out of the DMV. However, over here at Smooth Waves we’ve been on Joey since the release of his mixtape Manifesto. The other day he released another quality track titled “Swim.” The single continues with the trend of being better than his last song and explores a darker, slower sound than we’ve heard from him in the past. Check it out below.

Smooth Waves Week In Review 8/23- 8/30

Smooth Waves Sticker Logo-3

This is a little segment we’ll be doing every Sunday called “Smooth Waves Week in Review.” We’ll repost some of the best songs of the week, most newsworthy events and our favorite albums and mix tapes among other things. This week we take a look at a slew of mix tapes and some big news from Penthouse Music.

This past week was filled with good mixtapes. Most notable was Curtis Williams’ Danco James mixtape. The tape features the likes of Juicy J, Wiz Khalifa and Danny Seth. Curtis absolutely killed this project, look for the tape to be on our best of the best list later in the year.

Another hot mixtape was Curren$y’s Saturday Night Car Tunes. Spitta randomly dropped off the tape which features Wiz Khalifa, Gun Play, Birdman and more. Pilot Talk 3 is also supposed to be coming out soon.

Before last Sunday night we hadn’t even heard of Joey Green, a rapper from the DC area. However, after listening through is Manifesto tape several times he won our ears over. The project consists of 12 tracks and you can check it out below.

Penthouse Music shared some very big news with the music world this past week when they announced that they would be adding Toronto artist Lais to their team. To welcome Lais to Penthouse they released a song with a feature front the Penthouse king Skizzy Mars called “For You.” Check it out below and check out Lais’ Soundcloud. The future is very bright for Penthouse.

Spotlight: Joey Green’s ‘Manifesto’ is a Must Listen (Mixtape)

Joey Green is a rapper from Washington, DC and he’s got bars. We hadn’t heard of him until one of our homies down at Elon University hit us up earlier this week. He told us he had something very nice for us, but we were pretty skeptical. Everybody’s got a friend that raps these days, and we hear a lot of bad rappers. However, we were pleasantly surprised with Joey’s tape Manifesto. The project contains 12 tracks and is chocked full of features and dope production. The tape features the likes of K.eYe.D, Chanel, Surp God and Beau Young Prince (one of our old favorites). On the production end we get to listen to beats from Joey himself, BLLESSH, Ohbliv, Milky Fella, Jax, FVCKSOCI3TY, Subdaio, Davola, Thelonius Martin and Osew. With the list of people like that you could almost assume that this is a collaborative album. That’s not the case though, Joey’s presence is definitely felt throughout the tape. The young rapper has undeniable talent and we’re very excited to, potentially, work more closely with him in the future.
